INFORMATION ON GETTING AND USING AN FTP PROGRAM
The name FTP refers to "file transfer protocol". It is used to perform uploads to and downloads from a web site.
There are many FTP programs available. WS_FTP LE is however free and easy to use.
Download WS_FTP LE from here. Note that even though it's not mentioned, it also works in Windows 2000 and XP. After downloading it, just open the downloaded file in order to install it.
Once installed, execute the WS_FTP LE program. It will open up a window looking like this:

Click on New to create a profile for the web site to access. Put in the information as shown in this picture:
Use your own user
ID instead of jlsc-christina-s.
Note that I will email each
of the participants the user ID and password separately.
The profile name can be anything you want.

If your computer has a firewall, click on the Firewall tab and make the required changes, according to your own circumstances (can't really help you there, since the firewall I have allows passive data transfers, as configured by default in the Advanced tab).
Click OK, then click on General and you will be back to the log-on window.

Click on OK and it will log you into the web site's server and you will see a window like this:

Notice the left hand side shows the contents of the folder on your PC where the FTP program is installed, while the right hand side shows the folder at the web site your song will be uploaded.
Use the green up arrow on the left side to navigate to the folder on your pc where you have the song to be uploaded. For this example, my folder is called Christina's Music and it is on drive C: of my PC. It will look like this once you are there:

You can resize the windows so that you can see the full names of the files. You'll have to experiment with the mouse, but you can expand first the window and then the Name column by dragging the separator line to the right, and then it will look more like this:
Your song file has the extension .wma and the lyrics file has the extension .txt (created with Notepad) or .doc (created with MS Word or Wordpad). Try to use your name in the file names to avoid confusion.
Notice the little dot in the field called Binary and the check mark in Auto. They are important to ensure proper file transferring.
Next select both files from the left side (click on one of them and then hold down the CTRL key and click on the other file name too).
Then click on the arrow ponting to the right (-->)and this starts the upload. It may take a few minutes to complete, depending on your connection speed.
Once finished, the files will show up on the right hand side. They should have the same name and size as those on the left hand side. A new file would have been created on the left side with the log of the session.
You can close the session bly clicking on the Close button and then close the FTP program by clicking on the X in the top right hand corner.
If you want to listen to your file and see how it sounds on the web, click here.
