As this is really a showcase
of musicianship rather than a contest, I think I will dispense with the computing
of final marks and rankings. Ultimately it is the reviews that matter. Therefore
I will simply compile a listing of the critiques for everybody to read and perhaps
discuss further on or off forum.
- Please review as many performances as you can. There is no minimum and obviously
no maximum. Be as detailed as you care to be. The main purpose is to have
constructive cirticism so that everybody can improve on their own performance.
- It would be interesting to point out if a performance is either very close
to that of the original artist or else very different. How does this enhance
or hinder the production? Given the performer's musical skills, was that a
good choice of song?
- Because the sound quality may be somewhat poor (due to inherent loss through
lo-fi encoding), this by itself should not be used to reflect negatively on
the performance. Similarly, since not everybody has access to high quality
recording equipment, the recording quality should not be a factor.
- It will be a highly subjective review process. Keep this in mind. Your like
or dislike of the original song or artist will most likely tend to influence
your review of others' performances. Try your best to rise above personal
opinions on this.
If anybody has any objection to this set of rules or ideas on how to improve them, please let me know asap, otherwise I will proceed in this manner.
