Hazelglow's comments on his entry:

Phew, I made it. I set myself the goal of trying to write and record a new song by the end of the week, and get it online for IFC#4. Might sound like a silly idea but I wanted the challenge to try help break my writing drought of many months.

Not sure what I've created mind you, but it's been fun and kept me busy the last three evenings. Is it pop, is it jazz? Is it sh#@? I dunno! Anyhoo, it's called "Happy Just Being Here"...

You have an awesome voice! The recording quality is flawless. I love the horn section too. Very intimate!

Simple jazz....bouncy but with no back beat....needs that to really make sense...lyrics nothing out of the ordinary..Maybe with drums it wouldn't feel so dull....just goes in a straight line......and for way too long...this is new...I'm sure you're still working it out..

Good voice, although some words got lost due to bad enumciation. Liked the song

Very pure voice, I like it, it really helps to bring out the words. And I've always loved swing. I really like the chorus, it's quite catchy. I like the melody on the word "you" at the end of the choruses. And the trumpet is nice! The overlapping vocals at the end are very nice. Apart from my thoughts about the actual writing of the song: a full horn arrangement for the song would be pretty cool.

Nice jazzy/swingy piece, Haze. This and Irish ballads are definitely your style. You could push your voice out even more at times, it would add more character to the melody. A little boost on percussion would also help Good lounge music once you polish it up some more. Great effort.

i really like the progression at the bridge/chorus. well-thought out, musically. Melody seamless viz progression. you know how i hear this? sped up, played as pop-punk with overdriven guitars, drums pounding a straight rhythm (not swung), more of a classic rock 4-4 feel... (something like sloan, if you know who that is, or even sum 41 ...) - well that's how i'd cover it anyways... didn't hear much of the lyrics..

You have done it again..you have shared another one of your
great songs with me and others. You have a great way of producting a pleasant song to listen to. Your vocals are out of this world to me. Your musical touch in this one is
extraordinary! I liked the dynamics you display also.

Thank you for blessing me with your music,

This is a really good song.
I hear a full production with a horn section ...very cool..
This reminds me so much of Chicago.....
Great bass line.....
I think I would like to hear more harmony vox throughout...
actually...the pitch of the harmony vox seems to better suit the song...that is....I would reverse the main vox and harmony vox's roles...sing in the higher register for the harmony...and the lower register for the lead vox...

Again, very good song...kudos

Nice song. Very smooth, melodic, and soothing. You have a nice voice. Could picture this in a film soundtrack behind a love scene montage -- couple walking playfully down the beach, etc. :) Horn section was a nice touch. My only criticism is that the vocals sometimes went a little flat at the ends of phrases. Otherwise, great job!
