01-Melina S |
Holy cow, what a great voice! Performing a
song a-capella (spelling?) must be the biggest challenge a singer faces.
Melina's performance absolutely leaves me speechless. I think the decision
to perform this song showcased Melina's fantastic vocal range and abilities.
For a one time shot, she made a lasting impression.
My only comment would be that this type of song gets "old" fast, meaning, for me at least, I would tire quickly after hearing it several times. Overall excellent choice of material to showcase your abilities. Nicely done. |
| 02-Nancy G. In My Room by Brian Wilson |
The great thing about this showcase is hearing
different interpretations of already familiar songs. I loved Nancy's version
of this song better than the original. "Firefly" was able to
put her heart into this song and from an audience perspective, I could
feel both the mood and the meaning she was conveying.
"In My Room" was an excellent song for Nancy to chose, both displaying her vocals and her guitar playing. |
| 03-Markus Lullaby by Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan |
What a beautiful song. Being primarily a keyboard
player, I could really appreciate the piano playing. I am sure this is
one of those songs you love to just sit down and play as often as you
can.
As I mentioned, I thought the musicianship you displayed with the piano was very good; no excellent. Your backing vocals were also very good, lending themselves, quite nicely, to your lead. Your lead vocals sounded, at times, like you were searching for the right pitch. (I can relate!) I admit I'm not familiar with the song, but you sounded, at times, off pitch. Overall great job and a nice choice in material. |
| 04-James I Can't Get Next to You By The Temptations |
James had a lot of fun doing this
song and it comes through, loud and clear. This song was the first one
I heard after uploading mine. My first thought was "man I'm in trouble!".
First off, James' playing and recording of this song is excellent. The entire mix is right on, never missing a beat. From keyboards to guitar, James pulled this one off quite nicely. The decision to chose this song demonstrated James's outstanding musically abilities, however, vocals didn't match the songs energy. Nothing wrong with the vocals, mind you, but, for me, they just didn't match with this style of music. In summary, a great rendition of a great song that got me moving and shaking! |

06-Solpig |
Sol Pig- "Buona Sera " First, what
an attitude! (In a good way), From your intro to the song's end you were
able to convey a "feeling" of confidence with a bit of cockiness
thrown in for good measure.
This is one of those songs were it's hard to make any constructive remarks. Guitar playing was good, performance was good. Vocals, at times, seemed to be a bit strained, but nothing to take away from an overall very good performance. Bit short, though, next time work a little more! |
| 07-Kris S Wonderwall by Oasis |
Kris S - Wonderwall: Absolutely fantastic.
I wish I could give you some constructive feedback, but I simply can't.
Great song, great rendition. Iggy likes. |
| 08-Tim W Nowhere man by The Beatles |
Tim: "Nowhere Man":
Giving you 50 points for doing a Beatle's song and another 25 points for
being so damn funny. Reminded me of something you would hear on the lost
Beatle's tapes. I'm taking away 10 points, however, cause I'm not sure
if you're the vocalist, guitar player or what.
Overall I thought the rendition was very good and an excellent choice. The harmonies were right on as was the guitar playing, especially in the break. I really couldn't find any negatives to comment on. I would have loved to have been part of the Schmangy Brother's when they performed this song. I could be Betsy Schmangy! |
| 09-Nigel Happier Than the Morning Sun by Stevie Wonder |
Nigel: Happier; Nigel, you put a smile on my
face as soon as I heard this song. What a great performance! You've got
a fantastic voice that really makes this song. Guitar playing wasn't too
shabby, ether. I especially liked the pauses and the dropping down on
the chords.
Just plain excellent. No complaints from me, Sir. Nice job |
| 10-EED (Emily) Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison |
EDD: Every Rose I like your version much better
than the first. You were able to convey a much deeper meaning than the
original.
The recording, as I'm sure you are aware, was weak, however, listening to you get up walk over and press "stop" made the song that much more personal. I felt like you were in the room with me. At times I felt you weren't quite sure what note to sing. Perhaps it was the changed rendition or simply not a song suited for your pitch. Nothing noticeably wrong, just a vibe I got every now and then. Overall, nice change. |
| 11-David T Day Tripper by John Lennon & Paul McCartney |
My first thought was this guy took the original
stereo recording of "Day Tripper" panned everything to the left,
cutting out the vocals and then replaced them with his keyboard. The rhythm
and feel of the performance was that good, almost identical to the original.
As always, Dave nails the percussion along with the actual production. I felt, however, the keyboard, although played very well, lessened the overall sound and impact of the song, making it more of a MIDI produced style song. Extra points for choosing a Beatle's song, extra points for production and percussion. Five points off for the synth sound. |
| 12-Dave C Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma & Jacques Prévert |
Nice, mellow rendition, not bad
at all. I actually know this song (but I don't know why). My only complaint
was it seemed a bit slow, especially waiting for you to hit that bass
note.
Decent playing, nice choice. |
| 13-Hoaby Just A Little by The Beau Brummels |
Hoaby: I keep hearing all these
fantastic covers and I feel I'm cheating on my review when I say I can't
make any constructive comments. So here I go again.
First, I love this song, maybe showing my age but I really enjoyed it. Reminded me of my first band. (Our bass player quit and took his amp with him. The only problem was he didn't have a car. I still remember him walking down the street trying to carry/push a Fender Bassman Amp, we just pointed and laughed) Anyway, as expected, great rendition and great musicianship. Thanks for the memories. |
14-Todd Joker by Steve Miller |
Well shut my mouth, you threw me a twist with this rendition. The intro and first few verses were way cool. Wanted to break out my incense, patchouli oil and smoke something. Nice flange. Took me away. Vocals were also very good, lending themselves well to the song. Harmonies, too, were very well done. I especially liked how the song changed into the more traditional and familiar version. No complaints from me. | 15-Meikow You Won't See Me by The Beatles |
Another one of those covers that surprises ya. Funny, today I pulled the chords off of OLGA for this song cause I thought Id give it a try. Youre weirding me out man! Nice change from the original, which is always a challenge to sing. You handled it quite nicely, my friend. I felt, at times, you were a bit fast on the You Wont See Me part, but it was probably due to the fact that I know the cover so well. I started to sing along with ya toward the end and then was waiting for Think for Yourself to come up next, then The Word.right? God I love The Beatles. Nice choice. |
| 16-Hazelglow Dreams of Fast Cars by an amalgam of Tracy Chapman & Gabrielle |
Wow, two cover for the price of one Just something you quickly threw togethereeh? Nice switch. Enjoyed both versions that blended seamlessly into one very good rendition. Great voice, good playing. Overall very nice. You dont talk like me, though, you must be from somewhere else! |
