Troubles
by Alicia Keys
I know I'm getting really old.I don't know the original on this song,so I'll only compare Melina to Melina.Since I last heard Ms.M on her homepage(older material)her ability and confidence have only grown.Performing all acapella is dark and dangerous water and she seems to have swum through it safely.
In the intro to the song,is that spoken word part an interpretation,or part of the original? When doing your own low harmonies, you might want to compress/clarify/and then pan 'em left and right only cuz it distracts from the focus of an otherwise excellent delivery up the middle with your mid and high harmonies.
I know these are just throw-togethers,so everything I just said was totally unfair, but if thats the only criticism I have, that is testimony to the fact that it's really good.
you go girl.....mr.pig

In My Room
by Brian Wilson
OK..Don't laugh but I've never heard the original. My only beach boyz connection is..I used to score dope from the same guy B.W.'s son did. So...I can only review you which makes it tons easier. You have a great dramatic Folk voice.Your guitar playing is impeccable(12 string??)I've heard you on acidplanet ,and your definitely from my tribe.I would definitely listen to a second song from a vocalist with your performance whether or not it was a cover.Having no Idea how far you strayed from the original,I'll just leave it at you're really good! piggy

Lullaby
by Tom Waits
Great Vox,great Piano. How come all the Brits do american songs and vice-versa?I haven't heard the original, but I have heard Waits. You do as good a version as he does albeit different.Excellent choice for your voice and an absolutely beautiful song. Great work.....Piggy

I Can't Get Next to You
By The Temptations
the most up-tempo of all the entries so far.Good agressive approach.Wish the vox were a bit louder, but overall a great rendition of a great song.Great assembly of the music! good work! pig

Dreamer
by Ozzie Osbourne
ahhh...ozzy...so misunderstood. Most of his songs have always been lyrical gems though he is usually discarded on the "Metal-satan-burn-his-records-at-church" pile.He has always been anti-war,pro-people...just mired under the shadow of the sinister.
I haven't heard the original of this one,but you seemed to capture most of his sounds and tracking technique really well. You play quite well, and the vocals were good.In fact...almost too good.Ozzy's a lot more croaky than you. he hasn't had a real voice since the early 80's,and relies heavily on double tracking and d-tuning sped up(I have first hand proof).I don't think you need to double your voice,it sounds like it's good enough to stand alone.
Excellent selection,great rendition,great musicianship.....mr.pig

Wonderwall
by Oasis
well done.My only constructive criticism is I like your voice better than that punk in Oasis. You have an excellent full clear pop voice, reminds me of some of the better British Pop singers(are you a limey?).In the original,he double-tracked his vocals, swamped himself in effects and was inaudible. The only reason I listened to the song(Oasis) was it was forced down my throat by pay-for-play-radio.
I guess I'm still a little bitter about his remarks about themselves being the next beatles(does it show?)
the song itself eludes me.I don't know what it's about.
I'd like to hear more Kris S. songs. You knocked this one down to a tee and better,so I'm sure you could rip it up on your own stuff.
A+ for Kris S. C- for Oasis

Nowhere Man
by The Beatles
I Liked the first minute, and the last minute and all the ones in between.anybody playing the beatles always get's extra points.Anybody having fun, singing and playing the beatles, gets triple points.
You and your friends brought me in the room with you.I wish I was there to see it,and that is the Oh so overlooked part of performance and recording.I laughed with you,AND you sound loose and good.
My Favorite cover so far.
you go mo betta(tim W.)

Happier Than the Morning Sun

Every Rose Has Its Thorn
by Poison
Poison....Ah...the 80's. I think i would have liked them better if they tracked it this way the first time.Sounds like the velvet underground, one of my Fav's.Bonus points for going live.Extra bonus points for accordion. good work....piggy

by John Lennon & Paul McCartney
You and Dave C. should start a band..."the non-singing Daves"I KNOW you can sing cuz I went to your web page.If you come to L.A. were gonna hang out and I'm gonna make you sing! The best way to never have lead singer problems is to be him! I really liked that distorted descending thang at the start, but it never came back.I know you do dance mixes ,and those things are always cool, but MILK that baby for all she's worth. My 10 year old son just walked in while i was listening to you. He's a beatles fan and he said "wow..that was cool" I thought you came so close to reproducing the fundamentals exactly(bass, drums,Rhythm guitar) that the organ was a bit garish on top.Use the distorted thing,or something less succinct. You know your one of my favorite dudes, that's why I have to take you to task a little harder than the others. totally pro.......really cool....keep pushing harder!!! Piggy

Autumn Leaves
by Joseph Kosma & Jacques Prévert
Dave!!!???? where's the distortion box???? I thought I was finally gonna get to hear you sing.I'll bet you can.I fired numerous singers before I tried it myself.Anyone who can write like you has GOT to be able to sing.Oh well.... This is really pretty.Unexpected.Good tone.Got that django Reinhart kinda mono sound.Very out of context with your other work which makes it all the better. I wanna hear you sing next time or I'm gonna crucify you. Love, hogs and quiches,,,,,solpig.

Just A Little
by The Beau Brummels
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like a live track. If this is so , than this is a strong case for you stealing the show.Tim W.'s "nowhere man" and this track have been my favorites so far(although your song is streaming a little muddier)Even if this isn't live it's great!I have always been of the mind that if you can't do it live, than you can't do it. Good fluid soulful vox, disregarding the exactitude of lyric sheets(another virtue).Great balance on sound.I noticed that some other people commented on a bass wash....maybe we're using different players, cuz there is no such wash on my playback. so close to the original,I suspect you of being the original artist slumming around our forum to feel good about yourself. All A's!!! piggy

Joker
by Steve Miller
Great intro...Very creative!I think jackson said "pompetous" was a made up word anyway.Your "mistake" makes more sense than his correct lyric. Your voice sounded really good.In fact..I think the intro is proof that you don't need to double track your vox.Double tracking is for people with thin frequency voices and I don't think you fall into that category.Good harmonies, great recording A+ pig

You Won't See Me
by The Beatles
Hey!!! you were supposed to suck! You're older than me,so your voice should be BBQ'd,You're a Dodger fan, which means you're a hopeless romantic.I expected a pitchy version of some Lounge song. You have a good clear voice, and this is one of the hardest beatles songs to cover.Picking the beatles is 10 points.Executing even a respectable version, another ten.Guitar work 10 for execution,9 for tone(sounds a little too thick...try a crappier sounding guit next time) Being a Dodger fan..... minus 2 for delusions of grandeur. Over all though,I'd say you rule !Viva los locos que gustan azul! You go baby piggy

Dreams of Fast Cars
by an amalgam of Tracy Chapman & Gabrielle
Not bad for a "throw together" like you said.good musicianship(sometimes the easiest stuff is the hardest). Is that a little Morrisey I hear? I've never heard the "dreams" cover, but they worked together just fine.Good Job!
