What a beautiful voice! I don't know the original, but it is an interesting and enjoyable song. Kudos to you for going acapella. It takes a lot of talent to pull that off and you certainly did. My only criticism is that, at the end, there is so much going on, so many voices the melody and focus of the song gets lost. Well done! |
| 02-Nancy G In My Room by Brian Wilson |
I'm such a sucker for the simple guitar and
vocal combo. Great guitar work. Beautiful smokey voice. Great interpretation. |
| 03-Markus Lullaby by Tom Waits |
As with several entries, I don't know the original. The musicianship is excellent. I love the piano. The backing vocals are great--they blend well and add so much. Somehow at the end of a phrase(it'a a certain line of the melody) your vocals sound sharp. But your vocal style sounded dead on with the song--it was a great pick. |
| 04-James I Can't Get Next To You by The Temptations |
James! This is crackin' me up! I started listening before I read your note at the bottom and my initial thought when the synthesizer kicked in was "Holy 80s Wedding Band, Batman!" And I say that with nothing but admiration for the arrangement, musicanship, vocals and love of the 80s. I LOVED this. Truly original. A total REinterpretation of the song. So well done. This rocks. |
| 05-Iggy Dreamer by The Beatles |
My original review must have got lost in cyber/christina-space :) So, I've got a soft spot for Ozzie. My brother was a huge Ozzy fan when I was little. My parents were never so happy as when the concert to which my brother had tickets was cancelled due to a bat-head biting rabies (sp?) scare. But, I digress....I thought this was great. I was surprised how Lennon-esque it sounded. Ozzie and the Beatles, who knew? The keyboard is great as are the vocals. The production is clear and well done. Super. |
| 06-Solpig Buona Sera by Louis Prima |
I loved this. I've said before that I'm a total sucker for guitar and vocals alone. The guitar work was beautiful. I really like the quality of your voice--that gruffness really works on this song. And it's such a sweet, simple song. I'm impressed and happy to hear a new song that I really like. It's fun to hear your work after reading what you have to say in the forum! |
| 07-Kris S Wonderwall by Oasis |
This is the hardest one for me to critique
so far because I am MOST familliar with it. I know this song well and
really like it. I just kept waiting for something to make it POP and set
it apart from the original and just never got it. It seems unfair to give
other entries the benefit of the doubt that they really switched it up,
then lay that criticism on you, but...
THAT BEING SAID, I DID REALLY LIKE IT. You have a great voice that worked very well with the song. The music was great and the recording was really well put together. It was a great cover. |
| 08-Tim W Nowhere Man by the Beatles |
And a good time was had by all.
The harmonies and backup lalalala's were great. They should have let you sing lead more often. This was easy on the ears and fun. There's something about a recording of people laughing, no matter who or why that is ALWAYS funny. |
| 09-Nigel Happier Than the Morning Sun by Stevie Wonder |
First of all, how is there a Stevie WOnder song that I have never heard? I would have had a hard time imagining any of his songs translating well to an acoustic guitar arrangement, but you NAILED this. This is fabulous. You have a beautiful voice and the guitar work is just as good. I'm really at a loss for what to say about it. I have no criticism. I'm on my third listen and made my husband come hear. If you had this on an album I would gladly lay down my $15 ($17?). |
| 11-David T Day Tripper by John Lennon & Paul McCartney |
Give me a tamobourine any day of the week! I love that jingle jangle! I wasn't crazy about the synth choice, but the song, on the whole is fantastic. All instruments sound great; very well put together...excellent job! |
| 12-Dave C Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma & Jacques Prévert |
This is my husband's favorite song of all time and he's collected many versions of it. Technically, this was very well done--all the right notes hit, arranged well, executed precisely but it lacked in flow and therefore, to my ears, in emotion. Still, impressive guitar skills. |
| 13-Hoaby Just A Little by The Beau Brummels |
It is amazing how you copied the production of the original. Wow. I was not familliar with this but it is a catchy little sixties britpop tune. All the instruments sound great--so like the original. I like the throaty vocals--gives it a more mature and contemporary sound and I also liked your backing vocals better--maybe they are quieter? Good job. | 14-Todd Joker by Steve Miller |
Sweet! I really liked the first verse. It really grabbed me, especially knowing the orignal, and made me take notice. And one verse slowed down was just enough. Good call. All the instruments, vocals and production are very well done. You sound great. I just love the mellow feel your version of this song has. I love the original, but in sort of an ironic way. Even though it's a great song, I can't help roll my eyes when I hear Steve Miller. It's one of those "life's sound track" songs that I really like to listen to say, at a lake where there is plenty of sun and alcohol. It reminds me of summers past. But your interpretation of it somehow keeps the "good time" feel (for lack of a less-cheesey expression) but updates it, gives it a hip, contemporary feel. There was no eye rolling going on here tonight. Only smiles. | 15-Meikow You Won't See Me by The Beatles |
The production on this is fantastic. I liked the intro, but didn't go for the vocals over it at the end--it's too cool to cover up! What instrument is that? A guitar with effects? Synth? Sitar or somthing? I can not put my finger on it. Nice arrangement--maybe a tad to fast. But you've got a nice voice and all the instruments were done very well. Nice work. |
| 16-Hazelglow Dreams of Fast Cars by an amalgam of Tracy Chapman & Gabrielle |
It's like a lullabye. I'm lulled (in a very good way). Those songs fit seamlessly together--amazing. You must be British....or Irish? I've been wracking my brain to think of who your voice reminds me of--I'm thinking the guy from the Housemartins/Beautiful South..? It's a very soothing smooth sound--perfect for this song. Nice guitar work. |
