| 01-Melina S Troubles by Alicia Keys |
Although I am not very familiar with the original, I do like what i've heard from Alicia Keys, and I like this a capella song. It demonstrate's Melina's singing ability wonderfully, particularly in the primary harmonies. Good job and keep 'em comin'! |
| 02-Nancy G In My Room by Brian Wilson |
I love the sparse arrangement for this song (not being the biggest Beach boys fan of all time). The 12 string works well with Nancy's style, and her playing is lovely. The only negative I'll say is the vocal tends to want to go for rock 'n' roll while the instrumentation is mellllo. Creates kind of an odd contrast, but hey, that could lead to an honest to goodness new musical style, ya know?. Would like to see her perform this in a coffee shop somewhere... |
| 03-Markus Lullaby by Tom Waits |
First off, the piano is beautiful. Obviously, nobody is going to pull off Wait's voice, but you carry the spirit of the song well. Love the harmony parts. Great job. |
| 04-James I Can't Get Next to You By The Temptations |
Sweeeeet. Sounds like Morris Day and the Time. This song is movin, and gots tuns of energy. Liked the guitar solo, very frenetic. Vocals work it good. God I love motown! Thanks for posting! |
| 05-Iggy Deramer by The Beatles |
The roots of Iggy revealed! I'm glad someone did an Ozzy tune, and showed its not all about bats and devils and stuff. Iggy's voice works really well on this cover, and the orchestration is good. The piano was a little overpowering at first, but I have a stong feeling it's the old lo-fi blues going on there. I would have stretched out a guitar solo a bit more, but then again I'm a guitar guy. Overall, awsome jobe dude! You rock! |
| 06-Solpig Buona Sera by Louis Prima |
Great! Solpig lays down a bare bones acoustic tune, and sometimes that just takes some brass cajones. You got 'em dude, and you pulled the tune off very well. You must perform a lot, huh? |
| 07-Kris S Wonderwall by Oasis |
Smokin'! I listened to this one, like, three times already (I love oasis, too). Kris has a great voice and pulls this off well, but in his own style. The guitar is tight. The chorus lacks the intensity of the original, but this is a cover and that can't even be expected. I would love to listen to Kris's original stuff. Wanna collaborate :) |
| 08-Tim W Nowhere man by The Beatles |
Amazing. Beginning dialogue is funny... despite what y'all insisted, there must have been some glue sniffin' or something going on there. When the music started up, I was blown away. Very, very good vocal harmony. Only a couple of things detracted from the overall the performance: Way too much reverb, and in parts too many "lah-lahs". But it really sounds like you guys were having fun! Great job. |
| 09-Nigel Happier Than the Morning Sun by Stevie Wonder |
Stevie Wonder acoustic... who would have thunk it? This was a great idea, and shows what a great song that this is. I loved your guitar playing, and your voice has a lot of soul. Just curious, but did you track both at the same time? Sounds like it, and if that's the case, you must put on a pretty good show! |
| 10-EED (Emily) Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison |
Bout halfway through my reviews, and this is the most original arrangement I've heard yet. Kind of like the Counting Crows and Mary Lou Lord doing Poison, if you can believe that. You should see if Adam Duritz is available for doing backups! The only negative i'd say is in the parts of the song when you hit the upper register, the vocal is a little off; Not sure what that is. You could try doubling the line, or maybe using a different reverb. It kind of sounds like a room thing... Nonetheless I enjoyed the listen. |
| 11-David T Day Tripper by John Lennon & Paul McCartney |
Slick production. I wasn't expecting the synth instead of a vocal. The bass is solid, drums sound good, and you obviously are a very good musician. I'm such a fan of vocals, though... Maybe McCartney has an opening available in his band, eh? |
| 12-Dave C Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma & Jacques Prévert |
The chording is nice, but I would try going for a fuller sound in the studio, maybe stereo micing or something. There's some kind of slap-back echo that takes away from the performance, as well, but it moves and finishes. Good job! |
| 13-Hoaby Just A Little by The Beau Brummels |
Awesome. I think this might be my favorite I've heard so far. I love the voice... it's perfect for this song! The production and instruments are smooooth and solid. This one got da lo-fi blues, though... the bass kills the mix a little in the middle. I betcha the master kicks some okole! | 15-Meikow You Won't See Me by The Beatles |
Very good production. I would have kept to the original harmonies in the "you won't see me line" but I very much like the way you modernized the piece. A very enjoyable listen! | 16-Hazelglow Dreams of Fast Cars by an amalgam of Tracy Chapman & Gabrielle |
Very interesting idea lyrically. I like this type of thing; the mallability of words, and what's more important is it really works. The harmonies were very good, guitar sound was solid, but as I've heard some of Haze's other stuff, I could kind of tell this was a rush recording, not quite as polished as I'm used to hearing. Still good, though! Really liked how it winded down, but ditch the "two songs for the price of one" line at the end; That would work with live audience interplay, but when folks got the time to digest a pre recorded number, I think they get the point there's a merger going on. Glad to see ya got a song in on the wire, though. Enjoyed it as usual. |
