| Kneena | Todd, Great sound and a FANTASTIC interpretation! You really did a wonderful job with this song! You created a different approach with your music and and it worked. I really like how you started the song out and then you changed the tempo which made the entire song ROCK!!! Great song choice and excellent delivery! Kneena |
| Iggy | Well shut my mouth, you threw me
a twist with this rendition.
The intro and first few verses were way cool. Wanted to break out my incense, patchouli oil and smoke something. Nice flange. Took me away. Vocals were also very good, lending themselves well to the song. Harmonies, too, were very well done. I especially liked how the song changed into the more traditional and familiar version. No complaints from me. |
| Christina | Wow, Todd, this is awesome! It's so different from the original, yet so good! I love it! Super, great interpretation! |
| Nigel | Todd, man I'm totally with you on this cover. I hear exactly what you're after. Very creative approach. My biggest complaint is that you went hog wild with the effects! In my opinion it's too much - it takes away from the purity of your performance. Rhythms could be tighter among drums, bass, guitars. Other than that very nice. I really enjoyed your original approach to this song. Way to go! |
| James | I love it. Your arrangement and production are very cool. Made me pick up my guitar and play it. That's a high compliment! The word is pompitous! great slide work! |
| David T | Great new spin on an old classic. Very original idea, and it is pulled off wonderfully. Production is first-rate, good use of stereo effects. Playing and singing is superb. I really enjoyed this entry, and really can't think of anything to complain about. Well done! |
| Emily (EED) | Sweet! I really liked the first verse. It really grabbed me, especially knowing the orignal, and made me take notice. And one verse slowed down was just enough. Good call. All the instruments, vocals and production are very well done. You sound great. I just love the mellow feel your version of this song has. I love the original, but in sort of an ironic way. Even though it's a great song, I can't help roll my eyes when I hear Steve Miller. It's one of those "life's sound track" songs that I really like to listen to say, at a lake where there is plenty of sun and alcohol. It reminds me of summers past. But your interpretation of it somehow keeps the "good time" feel (for lack of a less-cheesey expression) but updates it, gives it a hip, contemporary feel. There was no eye rolling going on here tonight. Only smiles. |
| Stevo | Saweeet!! I loved it....I dig the way the chorus came through, in fact I had to listen to it twice to be sure it was as cool as I thought the first time and it was! Your vocals were sweet and mellow, the guitar was tight I dunno, I just dug the whole trip man and thanks for taking me on it : ) |
| Kris S | Todd:
I loved the way you made this song your own with that intro that slowly built up to the second verse. I never expected that. I thought it was very artistic the way you changed up the chorus, cutting out much of the music and scaling back to just the acoustic and shakers. That was a surprise. Are those drums real or loops? Sounds live. Needless to say I enjoyed the tune a lot. If you really want to collaborate...send me an email. |
| Meikow | Todd, when this song first started, I thought you had blown it by doing a slowed up version, then it kicked in and made the whole thing a total happening! Another great cover tune, made special with your interpetation, nice. |
| Nancy G | I enjoyed this cover song very
much Todd. I love Steve Miller. I have been lucky enough to see him perform
many times. Your version is very dreamy and pleasing. It is mellow and new! Your voice and the harmonies are perfectly enchanting. The guitar is great. I like the laid back approach to the song you took. You had a great song to work with. The lyrics are so cool..."Really love your peaches..want to shake your tree"...lol - a great line! My favorite S.Miller song is "Quick Silver Girl"..when he was with Quick Silver Messenger Service..also "I Love You" from the "Number 5" cd... Well, you totally did a great job on this cover song. Thanks for taking
the time...It made me happy to listen to it.. |
| Tim W | Todd I liked this song the 1st time I heard. Then I heard it again, and I REALLY liked it. Great originality. I was just listening to it a 3rd or 4th time, and it just zones me out. I love when music does that to me. Music, take me away. The lead guitar is very cool. Great job. Tim |
| Solpig | Great intro...Very creative!I think jackson
said "pompetous" was a made up word anyway.Your "mistake"
makes more sense than his correct lyric. Your voice sounded really good.In fact..I think the intro is proof that you don't need to double track your vox.Double tracking is for people with thin frequency voices and I don't think you fall into that category.Good harmonies, great recording A+ pig |
| Hoaby | Todd, the intro is quite a departure from Steves version....but fits quite well! It's nice that you added your own touch to it! The harmonies were right on, and the playing is excellent! Great production work as well...loved the guitar solo! I may be a little biased on this one tho...I think Steve Miller is one of the all time greats....and I hope to see him in 2004! |
| Dave C | Great stuff! I especially like the very daring interpretive intro, a little lilt almost wanting to shuffle or swing. |
| Hazelglow | Ooh, quality stuff! Fine attention to detail and recording. This performance sits really well in its groove. If you want me to be really fussy, I'd say the stereo chorusing/reverb of the drums in the chorus is too extreme and affects the pulse/sync adversely. Best of all, with your fresh arrangement you have really made this song yours; added a lot which tells us about yourself and your talents [which are pretty darned good, methinks] |
| Markus | Wow, you put a lot of time and work into this.
Your arrangment is very creative. The beginning is so beautiful! The tempo change after the first verse is great. I think I love your version of the song more than the original. Maybe sometimes effects are used a little bit too much. But overall I enjoyed your song very, very much! |
